Maroon 5 Donate $500K Ahead Of Super Bowl To Children's Charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

While people continue to critique the band's performance at the half-time show, it is worth mentioning that the band went the extra mile to make a difference off stage
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events that take place in the United States of America. Almost everyone is watching the super bowl. It is not just the football fans that tune in for the massive event because it is not just about football, it's about a whole lot more. All the people who aren't football fans sit tight and watch the event because there are so many celebrities, performances by famous artists, interesting and funny new commercials that drop, and even trailers of people's favorite TV shows and movies are shown. Most times, people skip watching the half time show while watching a game but during the super bowl, there are more people that switch on their TVs just to watch the half-time extravaganza. This year was the 53rd Super Bowl and it sure has been trending for a while now because of all the controversy that surrounds the half-time show and Maroon 5. Regardless of all the controversy that has been going around, the band believes in the greater good of things and has donated their entire earnings to a children's charity.
The band gave a performance that involved everything, their greatest hits, the glamour, the lanterns towards the end, the beautiful lighting and a great show, even a clip of an old Spongebob episode the "Bubble Bowl", but they failed to create an emotional connect. Despite all the controversy and many artists like Rihanna and Cardi B turning down the opportunity of performing at the super bowl, Maroon 5 agreed to go ahead with the performance. The band did surprise everyone a number of times during their halftime show but had one surprise left to be revealed - a donation.

As reported by E! News, the band and Interscope Records have together donated $500,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. During an interview, the band's frontman Adam Levine said, "Playing the Super Bowl has been a dream of our band for a long time." He further added, "We thank the NFL for the opportunity and also to them, along with Interscope Records, for making this donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters, which will have a major impact for children across the country." The charity Big Brothers And Big Sisters Of America helps children in realizing and reaching their full potential and helps them build their futures.

Pam Iorio, the non-profit's President and CEO, told E!: "We believe that all of our nation's youth need someone who believes in their potential, and we are so honored that the NFL, Interscope Records, and Maroon 5 are supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of America in our important mission." Maroon 5 took the stage during the halftime show along with rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi. The band didn't just perform some of their greatest hits but included a SpongeBob SquarePants interlude during the show. This was included after a petition, that was signed by more than 1 million people, which was entitled "Have 'Sweet Victory' Performed at the Super Bowl" after the sad demise of the creator of the show, Stephen Hillenburg, towards the end of last year. The fans expected a kickass performance but Maroon 5 failed to deliver it.
'Sweet Victory' is a song from a 2001 episode of the show in which SpongeBob and his fellow members of the Bikini Bottom Super Band perform at half-time of the 'Bubble Bowl'. The song is officially licensed by AMP Music. Before the Super Bowl took place, APM's president, Adam Taylor said, "We are truly thrilled that 'Sweet Victory,' a production music song, has crossed over into the mainstream of America's consciousness, and has become iconic, 'Can-Do,' rock anthem, thanks to the remarkable creativity of the late Stephen Hillenburg and composers David Glen Eisley and Bob Kulick."

The controversy that surrounded the super bowl was because of the way the NFL treated the Colin Kaepernick case last year. The former player started to kneel down during the national anthem in order to protest against the unjust police brutality that the African Americans were facing. Most people, including the president, were against his stance. The NFL even announced that anyone who kneeled down during the anthem would be fined. However, the player started to gain huge support from the people and celebrities. He was even made the face of Nike last year. One of the reasons why Maroon 5 faced so much backlash for their performance during the halftime show was because of the NFL's refusal to acknowledge the player's situation.
Many artists refused to perform at the halftime show because of the way the NFL treated the entire situation. Last week, NFL canceled the Maroon 5 press conference and said that they would like the show to talk to the press instead. Following this, Adam Levine said that the band had been doing "a lot of looking inward". Maroon 5 usually stays away from controversies and the people did not know how they would tackle these issues. They try to always separate music from politics and that's exactly what they were going for. They weren't the only ones to face the music, Travis Scott and Big Boi also received their fair share of criticism for performing as well. In fact, Jay Z even tried to talk Travis Scott out of it but failed to do so.

After the halftime show, Adam Levine took to Instagram to address the fans and the issues. He wrote a long message alongside an image of the "One Love" light display featured during their performance. He wrote, "When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote," The 39-year-old singer continued,  "Some of the words that came to mean that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love." He concluded saying,  "And the list of words is... Forgive, Laugh, Cry, Smile, Share, Live, Endure, Embrace, Remember, Enlighten, Preserve, Inspire, Sweat, Fight, Express, Give, Receive, Elevate, Climb, Unify, Fortify, Soften, Dance, Scream, Dream, Educate, Provide, Inhale, Exhale, Persevere, Stand, Kneel, Overcome, Love, Listen."
